Storvreta combines public art, water activities along the Fyrisån and a wide range of opportunities for active days. Storvretabadet is an easily accessible bathing spot on the Fyrisån and can be reached by bus routes 110 and 115. Those who value a variety of activities when choosing accommodation will therefore find opportunities here for culture, exercise and nature, without having to limit their stay to just one type of travel experience.

Art and History at the Railway Station

A particular point of interest is Storvreta railway station. It was inaugurated in 1874; following the establishment of the railway in the same year, industrial operations began to develop in Storvreta. Today, the station area is also shaped by art. The work “Dröm eller vendeltid” was created specifically for the station. The helmeted figures in it recall archaeological finds from the Vendel period. The pedestrian tunnel in the station area also features the ceiling painting “Drakorm under jord” by Lisa Jonasson.

There is also art to discover at Storvretabadet. Next to the bathing spot stands “Stenparken” by Gunilla Bandolin. The 400-tonne artwork consists of two circles with a shared centre and can be explored on site.

The local architectural history also includes Storvreta kapell. It was designed by architect Rolf Bergh and inaugurated on 9 September 1979. Storvreta kyrka was built and inaugurated in 2024 and is an extension of Storvreta församlingsgård. It has space for 150 people. These different construction dates also make the town interesting for travellers who want to view contemporary and older local developments side by side.

Nature, Trails and Winter Activities

The Storskogen nature reserve is located near Storvreta and is suitable for walks and hikes. It can be reached by car, bus or bicycle and offers several hiking trails with marked paths and signposts. Those who like to plan their days according to distance and activity can include these trails as part of their nature experience during their stay. The outdoor activities in Storvreta also include hiking activities divided into groups according to ability and age, as well as planned canoeing activities.

Cyclists also have specific guidance available: Uppsala Municipality lists a mountain bike trail near Tipp-toppen in Storvreta. Friluftsfrämjandet in Storvreta runs several mountain biking groups for children and young people. Among other activities, the Storvreta local branch organises Mörkervandringen every semester. You should distinguish between an individually planned activity and an explicitly organised offering.

During the cold season, 2.5- to 5-kilometre exercise and cross-country ski trails with artificial snow are available at Skogsvallen. The old trail in Storvreta is 2.5 kilometres long and also serves as an exercise and cross-country ski trail. The slopes in Solparken are suitable for sledding. This information can help when choosing the travel period and the desired structure of your days, but it says nothing about specific weather or conditions on any individual day of travel.

Storvreta as a Starting Point for Different Interests

Storvreta has good public transport connections by train and bus. This is relevant when planning your trip if you do not want to organise every excursion by car. Bus routes 110 and 115 run to Storvretabadet; Storskogen can be reached by car, bus or bicycle. Only then can you sensibly weigh up which location and type of accommodation suit your own daily rhythm.

For comparison with other places in the same broader context, you can also include Järlåsa, Almunge, Björklinge and Uppsala.
