Nature and Cultural Landscape

Norsjö can be specifically situated through the Svansele dammängar. Svansele dammängar are highly valuable for protection from both a biological and a cultural-historical perspective; parts of the area are maintained through annual flooding and mowing.

The Vajsjön Nature Reserve is located 1 km from the town of Norsjö. Its birdlife is considered unique in the inland areas of Västerbotten. From 15 April to 15 August, visitors are not allowed to leave the marked trails there. The Norsjö bus station is in the immediate vicinity of the Vajsjön Nature Reserve.

Culture

The Hembygdsområdet in Norsjö comprises buildings from the mid-19th century. These include a forge, a barn, a bakery, a forest cabin and a tar kiln. The Hembygdsområdet also has a café that sells pastries, drinks and ice cream.

The Hunting Museum showcases the wildlife of the surrounding area and the historical significance of hunting for the region. On display are historic hunting weapons, traps and snares, as well as animals from the region, including bears, wolves, wolverines, beavers and various birds.

Trails and Landscape

The Church Trail was used by the first inhabitants of Norsjö for church duties and burials and can be cycled. The Romantiska stigen trail passes through cultural landscapes and over boulder ridges formed during the Ice Age. One trail follows ridges formed by the inland ice that once covered large parts of Sweden.

The different trail lengths can be compared directly and provide a clear framework for your own planning. A hike totalling 60 km can begin in Bastuträsk, Norsjö or Åmliden. A hiking trail restored a few years ago is 11 km long, while a short hiking trail to Kortudden is approximately 1.5 km long. A trail marked with red ribbons leads approximately 700 m towards the lake. One stone is approximately 10 m high.

At a picnic area, you can make a fire and grill Bastuträskkorv.

Sports and Events

Norsjö has illuminated cross-country ski trails measuring 2.5 km and 4 km, as well as an unlit trail with longer sections of approximately 5 km and 10 km. The cross-country ski trails in Norsjö are free of charge.

Norsjö Beach is a beach volleyball tournament held annually on the first weekend of August. Every summer, the NVK organises a three-day beach volleyball school in Norsjö.

Activities and Getting There

There is a disc golf course near the Norsjö Arena. Various companies and associations in the municipality of Norsjö offer horse-riding activities all year round.

Bastuträsk is the only railway station in the municipality of Norsjö. The nearest airports are Falmark near Skellefteå, Lycksele and Arvidsjaur.
