Nordingrå: Discover Nature Trails, Coast and Culture

Nordingrå combines a striking coastal landscape with hiking trails, nature reserves and unusual cultural destinations.

Hiking trails on different scales

The Omneleden begins at Omnebadet and is described as a moderately difficult circular trail covering 5.2 kilometres. For planning your day, the approximate duration of around three hours is just as important as the fact that it is a circular route. The Världsarvsleden sets a much larger scale: it runs for 14 Swedish miles through the landscape of Nordingrå. The two trails therefore represent different ways of experiencing the surroundings, and their stated distances should not be confused with one another.

At Mannaminne, the steep path to the summit of Stortorget begins. The viewpoint is 135 metres above sea level.

Coast, lighthouse and protected landscape

Rotsidan is a four-kilometre stretch of coast. It is characterised by flat diabase surfaces that have been smoothed by the sea. This distinguishes the stretch from trails whose main features are their length or gradient, and places the landscape shaped directly by the water at the centre.

Högbonden also combines nature and maritime history. It has been a classic lighthouse site since 1909 and is also a nature reserve with a hostel in the area around the lighthouse. Högbonden can be reached by excursion boat from Barsta or Bönhamn; the service is operated by Höga Kusten-Båtarna. A visit there is therefore a different kind of experience from a hike that begins directly at a bathing spot or near a sight.

Twelve of Nordingrå’s fourteen orchid species grow in Halsviksravinen. In addition, ten of the municipality of Kramfors’s total of seventeen nature reserves are located in Nordingrå.

Church, church stables and Mannaminne

Nordingrå Church was completed in 1825. Today, east of the church stands the ruin of its medieval predecessor, the oldest parts of which date from the early 13th century. Nearby are the Kyrkstallarna on the old road to Vågsfjärden. Twelve church stables now stand there. They are the only surviving church stables in the entire Kramfors parish. In the past, they were used by churchgoers who travelled to church by horse; this historical function is explicitly part of the site’s history.

Mannaminne is an art and cultural village in Nordingrå. The site includes around 50 buildings and vehicles from around the world. Together with the church and the church stables, this does not form a uniform type of museum, but rather a series of clearly distinguishable cultural destinations: sacred architecture, historic infrastructure and an internationally oriented art and cultural collection.
