Sundsvall: Culture, Sidsjön and Södra Berget

The St. Olav’s Trail begins about seven kilometres from Sundsvall at Selånger and runs for around 580 kilometres to Trondheim. If you arrive by train, you can follow the signs from Sundsvall railway station for 10 kilometres to the start of the St. Olav’s Trail at Selånger.

Nature and trails

A 3.1-kilometre training trail runs along Lake Sidsjön. Fishing is possible at the same lake, and you can also canoe there and hire canoes locally. The first section of the St. Olav’s Trail can also be explored in shorter stages.

Culture and local history

Kulturmagasinet is located in central Sundsvall and can be reached by bus, bicycle, car or on foot. Events take place there year-round, including guided tours, lectures, films, dance, concerts and theatre performances. The library at Kulturmagasinet is a meeting place for everyone and offers information, knowledge, reading experiences and activities.

Sundsvalls museum is dedicated to the history of the city. Its collections include Swedish contemporary art as well as archaeological finds from the Högom burial ground, dated to the Migration Period in Central Norrland around 500 AD. The art collection ranges from Swedish art of the late 19th century to the present day and focuses on artists from northern Sweden. The museum’s exhibitions are located in the two buildings of Kulturmagasinet, Barkassen and Skonerten.

Stenstan in Sundsvall is a cultural and historical environment of national interest and is considered a unique attraction in Sweden. Stenstan’s visitor facilities include shops, restaurants and cafés.

The Sundsvall context also includes the localities of Njurunda, Svartvik, Sundsvall, Kvissleby, Liden, Stöde and Indal.

Mountain landscape and activities

The slalom facility at Södra Berget in central Sundsvall includes a family slope and a competition slope with World Cup status. It has two runs and two lifts. The longest run is 650 metres long and has an elevation difference of 142 metres.

Södra stadsberget is considered a year-round destination for the whole family. Cycling is possible at Södra stadsberget, and skiing is also available there.

Södra Berget Bike Arena is located in a northern Swedish forest landscape and offers views of Stenstan at the foot of the mountain. It has 19 non-lift-served trails of varying difficulty. The Bike Arena includes flow, cross-country and enduro trails. There is also a viewpoint at the summit of Norra Berget.

Water and relaxation

At Himlabadet in Sundsvall, you can surf waves on the Surfstream. The water park has the Magic Eye, Black Hole and Turbo water slides.

Himlabadet’s relaxation area includes several saunas, hot and cold pools, an experience shower and a sun terrace with a whirlpool. Himlabadet is fully adapted for accessibility, from the entrance and changing facilities to the pool and bathing areas.
