Lindome combines a strong craft tradition with historic trails and a wide range of opportunities for walking, cycling and enjoying the outdoors. Those looking for accommodation can therefore plan their stay around different interests: cultural history connected to furniture making, cultural-historical landscapes, or longer routes through forests, meadows and the Bunketorp area.

Culture and Local History

A good introduction to the history of the area is Lindome Church. Its larger bell dates from 1577. The church also contains a 19th-century altarpiece, donated in 1838 by Bishop af Wingård. Both details provide a specific historical connection for visitors, without reducing Lindome to a single attraction.

Furniture making has been particularly influential. It began in Lindome in the 18th century as a sideline to farming. By the middle of the 20th century, Lindome was an important centre of this production. Spinneriet is home to 20 different businesses, and themed tea tastings are also offered there. At the Mölndal City Museum, a permanent exhibition displays a unique collection of chairs and other furniture made in Lindome. Lindome is the southernmost part of the city of Mölndal, so the local history can also be viewed in the broader municipal context.

The Lindomeån is also part of the area’s historical character: in the past, it played an important role as a transport route for timber. Visitors who want to combine landscapes with the history of how they were used can find further points of interest along the old trails. Spinnmästarevägen follows an old route taken by the main road. The old Pilgrimsvägen runs parallel to the E6 and the old national road.

Historic Trails and Landscapes

Lindome has several cultural walks featuring sites of cultural and historical interest. An old route runs north of Kimmersbo in southwestern Lindome. There, you can walk or cycle through an ancient landscape with beautiful meadows and grazing land. This makes it possible to enjoy a varied stay even when the focus is not just on a single destination, but on the landscape along the route.

Further historical traces can be found in Dvärred, where there is a more than 3,500-year-old stone cist known as Dvärgahuset. Fagered is also home to one of the best-preserved Iron Age cultural landscapes in Mölndal Municipality. These places offer different points of focus, from a single prehistoric structure to a more extensive cultural landscape.

Bunketorp, Lakes and Nature Experiences

Bunketorp is a large area for recreational activities and exercise in Lindome. It has numerous exercise trails ranging from 1.5 to 9 km in length. The Bohusleden also passes through the Bunketorp recreation area. A bathing place is located by Södra Barnsjön in the same area.

The Djursjöleden is located in the Bunketorp area outside Lindome. This 20 km lowland trail forms a loop and passes 10 lakes. Along the Djursjöleden, there are several shelters and barbecue areas. These specific details are more useful when planning a longer tour than a general description of the area. The Sandsjöbacka nature reserve can be reached from Spårhagavägen in Lindome via walking trails, adding another nature destination to the selection.

Accommodation and Orientation

When looking for a hotel in Lindome, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on. Those interested in the history of furniture making and local culture can include Lindome Church, Spinneriet and the exhibition at the Mölndal City Museum in their plans. For active days, Bunketorp, the Djursjöleden or the trails near Kimmersbo are good options. At Lindome Station, there is free commuter parking directly at the station, which is a practical point of reference when planning your journey by car.

Lindome is therefore a suitable destination for visitors who want to combine historical subjects with nature experiences. The different trail lengths, historical sites and landscapes allow for short excursions as well as a full day outdoors.
