The Dunajek Wielki forest district lies on the edge of the Puszcza Borecka forest. Four nature reserves protect the particularly attractive natural and landscape areas of the Puszcza Borecka.
History
Around 1550, Dunajek Wielki was founded on forest land that had been cleared from the Puszcza Borecka during the colonization of Prussia. In 1563, Dunajek Wielki is recorded as a rent-paying village under Kulm law.
The archaeological traces range from the Stone Age through the Mesolithic and the Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages and the early modern period. There are also traces associated with the Migration Period and Roman influences. Dunajek Wielki is also home to an archaeological burial mound field dating to the transition from the 1st to the 2nd century AD.
The old cemetery of Dunajek Wielki contains an obelisk and a memorial plaque for residents who were killed during the hostilities from 1914 to 1918. The inscriptions are in German and Polish.

The Farenheid family tomb in Rapa is a pyramid-shaped funerary monument from 1811 and is 15.9 metres high.
The monumental railway bridges of Stańczyki are 250 metres long and 36.5 metres high. Parts of the former railway line feature walking and cycling paths as well as educational trails.
Gołdap has a climatic and peat spa with a sanatorium, a mineral water pump room, graduation towers, walking and cycling paths, mini-golf, a playground and exercise facilities on the lakeshore.
The Piękna Góra Rudziewicz complex near Gołdap includes downhill ski runs, drag lifts, a chairlift and other leisure facilities. Cross-country ski trails can be found in the spa district and in the Kumiecie forest.
Bezkrwawe Safari is a wildlife farm covering several hundred hectares, with zebras, camels and other animals, which can be visited by off-road vehicles.
