Gudernes stræde runs for approximately 64 kilometres from Køge Bay to Vellerup Vig through landscapes shaped by natural and cultural history. Along the entire route, there are around 80 information boards with short texts about nature, culture and local history. Greve Municipality also includes the places Greve Strand and Karlslunde.

Nature

In the southernmost part of Greve Municipality lies Brødmosen, covering approximately 7.5 hectares. The marsh contains former peat cuttings that are permanently or temporarily filled with water. Relatively rare plant communities made up of interwoven roots and stems, known as “hængesække”, float on the surface of the marsh or over open water. Brødmosen is protected as a natural area under Section 3 of Danish nature conservation law. Protected great crested newts and moor frogs, which are listed in Annex IV of the EU Habitats Directive, are found there.

Greve Skov is a state forest between Greve Landsby and Karlslunde. Visitors can observe the growth of a newly established forest there. Karlslunde Mose has a bird tower with information boards; from there, the view extends across the marsh, and birds can be observed at close range. Hundigeparken includes a heath that is special because of its immediate proximity to the town. Mosede Mose has recreational paths, ponds and a fishing platform.

Paths lead around Olsbæk Lake. Three small bridges cross the area, one of which is equipped with benches for recreation and leisure fishing.

Paths

Hedebostien is a 21.7-kilometre cycling and hiking trail from Køge Bay at Trylleskoven to Roskilde. Along the trail, signs and an app provide stories and useful information about the places along the route. Hedeland has a total network of 100 kilometres of paths.

Hedeland includes a golf course, a playground, a fishing lake, shelters, a ski slope and a heritage railway. The varied landscape provides habitats for songbirds, waterfowl, insects, butterflies, frogs, lizards, flowers and other plants. The Hedeland Amphitheatre was transformed from a gravel pit into Denmark’s largest open-air stage and has space for more than 4,000 spectators.

Hedelands Veteranbane is a five-kilometre narrow-gauge heritage railway with eight stops. The ski hill in Hedeland is approximately 50 metres high and lies about 80 metres above sea level; during the winter half of the year, it has an approximately 300-metre-long ski slope.

Coast

Strandparken is an artificially created natural and recreational area. It extends along the coast from Avedøre Holme in the north to Spurvestien at Hundige Strand in the south and also protects against flooding from the sea. Facilities include tables, barbecue areas, toilets, playgrounds, beach showers and bathing jetties.

Strandparken has a total of twelve bathing jetties, evenly distributed along the coast. National cycling routes N4, N6 and N9, as well as two European EuroVelo routes, pass through the area. Fishing is permitted in all six lakes in Strandparken.

Culture

Greve Museum displays Hedebo embroidery, which was regarded in the 19th century as a symbol of the outstanding craftsmanship of Denmark’s rural population. The museum also has a café serving lunch and freshly brewed coffee.

The exhibition “On the Brink of War – Neutrality between Warfare and Welfare” at Mosede Fort shows how the First World War affected the everyday lives of Danes and how Denmark maintained its neutrality during the four years of the war. The authentic coastal fort Mosede Fort in Greve has atmospheric, well-preserved casemates that visitors can explore.

Mobility

Mosede Fort can be reached on foot from Karlslunde Station in five minutes. Lines E and A operate to and from Karlslunde Station. National Cycle Route 9 along Køge Bay is part of the international Berlin–Copenhagen cycle route.
