Tappernøje: Beaches, Nature, Trails and History
Beaches and protected natural areas
Tappernøje Beach is located on Strandvejen, opposite Marjatta, in very beautiful surroundings with large protected natural areas. This puts a landscape at the centre of your experience in which the beach and natural areas can be enjoyed together, without limiting the destination to just one travel idea. The spatial relationships remain distinct: the Sjællandsleden hiking trail passes directly by Tappernøje Beach, while the København–Berlin cycling route passes close to Tappernøje Beach. If you enjoy travelling on foot, this specific trail layout is one of the important points of reference in the area. For planning your day, the beach can therefore also be taken into account as a specific landmark along the hiking trail.
Cyclists also find a clear connection to the route network in Tappernøje. Another cycling route is Vildtbanen. It follows the boundary of Northern Europe’s largest wildlife park.
Cycling route and trails between fjords
The Vildtbanen cycling route runs from the old inn in Tappernøje on Præstø Fjord to Vildtbanekroen on Dybsø Fjord. The route therefore passes through a landscape in which two fjords serve as specific points of reference, with Tappernøje at the starting point of the route. The two endpoints and the fjords provide a clear orientation for further route planning along the trail. The connection between Præstø Fjord and Dybsø Fjord creates a different spatial focus from the course of the København–Berlin route near the beach.
At Snesere Sø, the circular trail is 1,200 metres long and conveys the local history of Gøngehøvdingen Svend Povlsen and his fight against the Swedes. The trail to Snesere Sø can be started at Brøderupvej 32 or Sneserevej 66. The two access points make the trail easy to plan without depending on a single starting location. This destination thus brings together a clearly measured loop, a historical theme and two possible starting points.
Culture, history and community spaces
Kornmagasinet in Tappernøje has a hall for meetings and activities. It provides a setting for social and cultural activities and events in which people of all ages can participate.
Snesere Church has a pulpit carved in the High Renaissance style by the Schrøder workshop in Næstved. In Snesere, a QR code also provides a story about Svend Gønge to listen to. Both references offer different ways of exploring the local cultural and historical narrative.
Find vej i Folkeskoven is a kind of treasure hunt. In the Tappernøje, Snesere and Everdrup area, Skovens Dag takes place in spring. Together with the circular trail at Snesere Sø, this creates a selection in which nature experiences, playful discovery and regional history stand side by side.
