FÃ¥revejle Stationsby by the reclaimed Lammefjord

The reclaimed Lammefjord gives FÃ¥revejle Stationsby a distinctive character. The town lies in the middle of the Lammefjord, where the sandy fjord bed is in places up to 6 m below sea level. The surrounding area is used for agriculture; thanks to the irrigation possibilities, the sandy soil is particularly suitable for growing vegetables.

Landscape, routes and orientation

Adelers Allé is a major thoroughfare capable of accommodating heavy traffic, making Fårevejle Stationsby easily accessible. At the same time, it is one of the town’s through routes. A combined cycle path and footpath runs along the road to Fårevejle Kirkeby. If you are arriving by train, Fårevejle is a stop on Lokaltog’s 510R Odsherredsbanen line. The town grew up around Fårevejle railway station and emerged in connection with the establishment of the Odsherredsbanen, which was inaugurated in 1899.

Local history in architectural detail

Adelers Huse are two distinctive semi-detached houses built in 1931 and restored to their original appearance. Today, they serve as a heritage interpretation centre and community centre. A statue of Lensbaron G. F. Zytphen Adeler was erected in the western part of FÃ¥revejle Stationsby in 1928. The original railway station buildings in FÃ¥revejle are also considered worthy of preservation.

The history of Odsherreds Efterskole dates back to 1907. At that time, it was founded as Faarevejle Højskole on the island of Flintholm in the drained Lammefjord. The white main building dates from the school’s founding period. The three-storey, castle-like wing complex of FÃ¥revejle Højskole, founded in 1907, now houses an efterskole. Zytphen Adeler is also associated with the draining of the Lammefjord: he initiated the project in the 1870s, resulting in the reclamation of approximately 5,000 ha of fertile land.

Experience route and insights into the Lammefjord

The Lammefjord experience route is 10 kilometres long. With its fixed length, the ten-kilometre route can be planned as a self-contained day excursion around the Lammefjord; the podcasts available year-round are also available to visitors along the route outside the summer holidays, offering stories about the Lammefjord. Five podcasts with stories about the Lammefjord can be listened to along the route throughout the year. This makes it possible to view the landscape not only through its present-day use, but also through its formation and historical changes. The innermost part of the Lammefjord has been designated as part of a larger undisturbed area and landscape area.

At the corner of Adelers Allé and Rådhusvej in Fårevejle Stationsby, there is a visitor point. During the summer holidays, visitors were able to book activities with a host there, including a guided field walk with a local farmer. During the walk, the special soil conditions that make it possible to grow produce by the Lammefjord are explained.
