Veddinge: Hiking, Panoramic Views and Coastal Moments
Veddinge Bakker lies along the Vejrhøjbuen ridge and combines a distinctive glacial landscape with trails, viewpoints and cultural experiences. The meltwater ravine is located as a separate landscape section near Disbjerg, while Vejrhøjbuen refers to the ridge. The meltwater ravine near Disbjerg is approximately 1.5 km long. The difference in elevation between its floor and the ridge of Vejrhøjbuen is up to 40 m. From Disbjerg, you can see a key feature in the glacially shaped landscape of Odsherred Geopark.
Ridge, Views and Hiking Routes
Visitors mainly come to Veddinge Bakker to walk, hike and enjoy the views. Højderygstien follows Vejrhøjbuen, a geological formation that was created during the last Ice Age approximately 17,000 years ago. The section in question across the ridge offers views of Sejerø Bay and Lammefjord. The landscape is therefore shaped not only by its differences in elevation, but also by its wide vistas. On the ridge, the views of Sejerø Bay and Lammefjord take center stage; the other section leads through hilly terrain to several burial mounds.
Another section of Højderygstien runs through the hilly landscape from the shelter site in Veddinge Bakker past the Bronze Age burial mounds Esterhøj and Maglehøj to Dutterhøje. The Ice Age Route runs by Veddinge Bakker at Skamlebækvej/Tranelunden and complements the specific route references around the area.
Geokids: Art with a Personal Story
Geokids is located at Veddinge Bakker: an open-air art installation consisting of 3,500 clay masks designed by schoolchildren. The large number of masks makes the work an integral part of the local landscape. On the back of each Geokids mask is a QR code that takes you by smartphone to a short video about the schoolchild who designed that particular mask. Those who view the installation with a smartphone can scan the QR code on the back of each mask and thereby open the corresponding short video.
Before the Geokids masks were created, all the schoolchildren completed an educational program. It introduced them to the Ice Age, nature, food and cultural history, with particular focus on the Odsherred painters.
Veddinge Beach and the Way to the Water
You can reach Veddinge Beach via Ellebakken: turn off there, park at the end of the road by the childcare center, and walk approximately 1 km along the path to the water. Fishing is possible at Veddinge Beach for several kilometers in both directions. For planning purposes, the area therefore offers a clear transition between hilly landscapes, historic points of interest, art and a stretch of beach with extensive fishing opportunities. The path to the water begins at Ellebakken and covers approximately 1 km; fishing, by contrast, extends for several kilometers in both directions.
You can also take a look at Skæreby, Gudmindrup, Lumsås, Hørve, Bøsserup, Tengslemark, Grevinge and Ordrup.
