Korsør: Nor, Coast and Maritime Experiences

Korsør combines the landscape of Korsør Nor with coast, woodland and maritime experiences along the Great Belt. For your travel decision, the surroundings you want are especially important: you can combine walks by the water, nature observation, days at the beach, cycling tours or activities in the harbour.

Nor, Woodland and Coastal Views

At around 10 square kilometres, Korsør Nor is Denmark’s largest nor. Here, a nor is a shallow bay that extends inland behind Korsør. The 16-kilometre-long Norstien hiking trail runs along the water. The large, flat shoreline areas with beach meadows and reed beds are important resting places for migratory birds and give the surroundings a distinctive natural character.

Immediately south of the centre lies Korsør Lystskov, an old 130-hectare beech forest. Clearly marked paths that are easy to follow lead through the forest to coastal cliffs overlooking the Great Belt. This gives you a choice between the open shores of the nor, wooded paths and elevated viewpoints.

Beach, Cycling Tours and Orientation

Ceresstranden is a family-friendly sandy beach with a Blue Flag and is just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. At Halsskov Oddes Revspidsen, you can get particularly close to the Great Belt Bridge and enjoy a very good view of the bridge; walks in the surrounding area complement this coastal destination.

Korsør is also a clear point of orientation for cycle tourists. National Cycle Route N8 – Østersøruten runs through Korsør along the coast of the Great Belt. The Great Belt cannot be crossed by bicycle: cycle tourists on the N8 therefore take the train from Korsør Station. The station is the town’s only railway station and serves train traffic to and from Korsør. Parking is available there for cars and bicycles; access is via stairs or a lift.

Water, Harbour and Sprogø

From Korsør, sea kayaking tours are possible along the coast, in the harbour and on Korsør Nor. A tour can lead through the harbour, under the characteristic bascule bridge and into the nor. The former Halsskov Færgehavn ferry port has been converted into a water sports centre with a diving platform, bathing beach and other maritime activities. Færgehavnens Strand is suitable for family diving, both snorkelling and scuba diving.

Another focus for excursions is Sprogø. The excursion includes the bus ride to the island and a guided tour of Gammel Sprogø covering the island’s history and nature. You can find culture at Kongegaarden, which hosts changing exhibitions, concerts and other events.

When looking for a hotel in Korsør, you can therefore first decide on the focus of your stay: Norstien and Lystskov stand for paths and nature, Ceresstranden and Halsskov for beach and water, while the station, harbour and Sprogø provide further maritime points of orientation.
