Solrød: Sandy Coast, Nature Trails and Local History

At Solrød Strandpark, a six-kilometre-long coast stretches out, consisting mostly of a broad sandy beach with dunes and child-friendly bathing conditions. The coast offers opportunities for nature experiences, swimming and sailing. Solrød Strand beach can be reached, among other ways, via Østre Strandvej. Several piers lead across the lagoon lakes to Staunings Ø. During the birds’ breeding season, from 1 April to 31 August, access to the southern tip of Staunings Ø is prohibited.

Coast and Nature

A distinctive natural area is Trylleskoven, a protected woodland with gnarled pine trees, a beach, a fire pit and a nature playground. The woodland was planted at the end of the 19th century. The beach at Trylleskoven is particularly suitable for children because of its broad sandy beach and shallow water.

In nearby Karlstrup Skov og Kalkgrav, trails run along the lake. There are opportunities for picnicking and fishing; visitors can also search for fossils in Karlstrup Kalkgrav.

Trails and Exercise

Solrød Caminoen connects four Kløverstier routes with additional trails through nature, coastal landscapes and local communities. It includes the five-kilometre-long Strandturen. Another connection through the landscape is the Hedebostien recreational trail: it passes Karlstrup Kalkgrav and continues to Trylleskoven at Solrød Strand. Hedebostien is a recreational nature trail for walkers, joggers, cyclists and horse riders.

As an established local running tradition, Solrød Rundt Løbet has brought together runners of all ages and ability levels since 2017; the year 2020 is excluded.

History and Local Culture

Solrød Landsby is one of the oldest villages in Solrød Municipality. The eight Bronze Age burial mounds north of the village and archaeological finds point back several thousand years. The foundations of the present-day Solrød Kirke date back to a stone church built in the 12th century.

The cultural and historical village environment has been preserved mainly around Solrød Byvej. Old, elongated farmhouses and newer houses from the cooperative era stand side by side there. A museum described as “Denmark’s smallest museum” is located in a transformer tower from 1944. Old pictures and films there show the history of Solrød Strand.

Karlstrup Kirke is a small, well-preserved medieval church on a hill by Karlstrup Møllebæk. It was built as part of a manor that developed into a castle complex and disappeared more than 600 years ago. The church is open to visitors every day; there, visitors can find peace and discover the stories connected with it.

Culture and Community

Solrød Bibliotek og Kulturhus is open to everyone and supports community activities such as reading groups, knitting cafés, board game groups, lectures, music events, debates and workshops. Solrød Opera is an association founded in 2014 that brings Danish opera and classical music to Solrød. Solrød Bio has operated as a cinema since 1977 and shows films for children, young people and adults.

The annual Solrød Byfest combines activities, food, music and communal dining.

Water and Relaxation

Solrød Svømmehal offers family-friendly swimming, relaxation and water games. Its facilities include a 25-metre pool, a baby and warm-water pool, a training pool, a sauna and an infrared sauna. In addition to swimming and training, it offers water activities such as diving and kayaking.
