Coastal Views and Smaller Planted Areas

From Vesterskov, there is a view of the Farø Bridge and the wooded coast of Falster. Today, there are several smaller planted areas around Vesterskov. The view combines a distinctive structure with a wooded coastline; the smaller planted areas add individual landscape accents. Coastal observation and photography here focus on the bridge, coast and planted areas.

Traces of Landscape and Resistance

The former Vesterskov forest was felled in 1769 in connection with Bogø's purchase of its freedom from the Crown. The purchase of freedom from the Crown forms the political background to the deforestation. In Vesterskoven, the memorial “Vesterskov, Mindesten” commemorates the two resistance fighters Leif Dines Pedersen and Poul Mackeprang Nielsen. Alongside the history of the landscape, the memorial creates a reminder of the resistance.

The Vesterskov Redoubt

On the western side of Bogø, the Vesterskov redoubt was built during the Dano-Swedish War from 1657 to 1660. Its protected earthworks stand on the approximately 5 m-high, west-facing edge of the coastal cliff. Earth embankments up to 3.5 m high form a defensive structure measuring approximately 30 × 30 m and laid out parallel to the coast. The structure is part of Bogø's western coastal landscape as well as the military history of the Dano-Swedish War. For visitors interested in history, the redoubt connects its period of construction with a clearly defined location on the coast.

Hiking on the Camønoen

The Camønoen is a 175 km-long hiking trail through the varied landscapes of Møn, Bogø and Nyord. It includes the 8.7 km-long Surfetapen. This section runs from Bogø Mølle to Farø and back to Bogø Mølle, passing through Vesterskov on the way to Farø. The Surfetapen is scenic; however, there is no accommodation available on this stage. At 8.7 km, it remains a limited section within the 175 km-long trail. For specific hiking plans, the difference between the short Surfetapen and the entire Camønoen is relevant. The route there and back via Bogø Mølle and Farø is part of the trail because the stage ends back at its starting point. Anyone planning this section should therefore take into account a return to Bogø Mølle rather than the trail ending in Farø.

Fishing Spot by the Water

At the “Vesterskov, Bogø” fishing spot, deep water reaches directly to the shore. Within casting distance, the water is 20 to 25 m deep, which is particularly advantageous for cod fishing. Cod fishing here has a specific connection to the water depth and the immediate shoreline location. Cod fishing and hiking thus stand alongside each other as two different themes of the coastal area. For visitors who also explore coastal landscapes through water and fishing-related activities, the fishing spot complements Vesterskov's trails and historical aspects.
