Nakskov
The small town of Nakskov lies on the Danish Baltic Sea island of Lolland. The island’s largest and westernmost town, it marks the eastern end of Nakskov Fjord. Nakskov and its surroundings offer unspoilt white beaches, the fjord, and heathland inland, whose gently rolling landscape has earned it the affectionate nickname “Lolland’s Switzerland.”
Nakskov’s former industries are part of the town’s history, and its shipyards have become museums. The largest of these, the Skibs- og Søfartsmuseum near the harbour, has for several years attracted holidaymakers interested in shipbuilding and seafaring techniques. One particular draw is the Russian submarine, which can be visited in the harbour year-round, with guided tours providing a detailed look at every part of it.
Together with nearby campsites, a growing number of holiday homes, partnerships with the bird reserves in Indre Fjord, ferry services, guided tours of the charming little town, the nearby Reventlow Park, and the opportunity to go nude bathing here, these attractions are also making Nakskov itself more appealing and helping pave the way for sustainable tourism on Lolland’s west coast.
Families, as well as cycling holidaymakers, those seeking relaxation and adventure lovers, are already drawn to the tranquil town of Nakskov. Nakskov is an ideal starting point for excursions to the small and large islands in southern Denmark.
