Kamień Pomorski (Cammin)

Like neighboring Wolin (Wollin), the town of Kamień Pomorski, situated eight kilometers south of the Baltic Sea on the Zalew Kamienski (Cammin Lagoon), an inlet of the Dziwna (Dievenow), can look back on a significant history. It is one of the oldest towns in Pomerania and was even the capital for a short time.

From the 12th to the 14th century, Kamień Pomorski was the seat of a bishopric. The Cathedral of St. John was built during this period. The auxiliary buildings, surrounded by walls that are still visible today and later rebuilt, bear witness to the former scale of the cathedral complex. Every year from late June to early September, the cathedral hosts the International Weeks of Organ and Chamber Music. The well-preserved town hall, with its arcaded walkway, dating from the 14th century and standing in the middle of the market square, as well as the Wollin Gate with its bastion, which now houses a museum, are also stone witnesses to the town’s rich history.

Today, Kamień Pomorski presents itself as a town with a very well-developed tourist infrastructure. Above all, the brine spring discovered more than 100 years ago created the conditions for a sanatorium specializing in the treatment of orthopedic and cardiovascular conditions.

The town harbor is the starting point for leisure and sightseeing boat trips, and major sailing regattas are also held in this area.
