Hällevik between fishing history and nature

Hällevik is the oldest and best-known fishing village on Listerlandet. Its maritime character is particularly evident at the Hällevik Fishing Museum: inaugurated in 1976, it features exhibitions, work equipment and photographs relating to fishing and seafaring. Also on display are a wreck boat, three Blekinge boats, a wheelhouse and several engines from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. If you are interested in coastal culture, you will find here not just individual historical objects, but various records of fishing and seafaring brought together in a single exhibition.

Fishing village and museum as a cultural focal point

The designation fishing village remains closely associated with the museum’s themes in Hällevik. The wreck boat and the three Blekinge boats illustrate different types of boats, while the wheelhouse and engines show further aspects of the maritime working world. This collection is complemented by photographs and work equipment. The dating of the engines to the late 19th and early 20th centuries gives a clear historical framework to a museum visit. This makes Hällevik particularly interesting for choosing a destination if maritime history and a specific insight into fishing and seafaring are among your travel interests.

Nature reserve, beach and trails

Stiby Backe Nature Reserve is located directly next to Hällevik. Its highest point is 70 metres high and offers views of the surrounding areas. The reserve has hiking and horse-riding trails for recreation and outdoor activities. This allows the natural area to be experienced via different routes without separating its location immediately next to Hällevik from the village setting.

Hälleviks badstrand offers a different experience of the landscape. The beach is shallow and sandy and has a jetty. There is also a toilet and barbecue areas on site. For travellers with dogs, the designated dog-bathing area is relevant: it is marked by signs and wooden posts. This makes the beach features and the areas available clearly distinguishable from one another.

Water, leisure and a summer event

Hälleviksbadet complements the beach and nature with its own leisure facilities. Three heated outdoor pools are available there. The water slide is 68 metres long; there is also a playground and opportunities to play beach volleyball. These individual facilities provide several specific points of reference if you would like to consider water activities, exercise or play opportunities for your stay.

A recurring event also shapes the annual cycle of the village: the Hällevik Tradjazz Festival is a public festival held every summer in August. For active days, there is also a cycling route that runs through Hällevik and is approximately 45 kilometres long. The stated distance is deliberately intended as an approximate length.
