Kallinge combines experiences in nature with insights into local industrial and everyday history.

Nature by the Water and Trails for Active Days

The outdoor recreation area at Karlsnäsgården is located on the banks of the Ronnebyån River and Lake Rötlången. At Rötlången, you can swim from two jetties. This gives the lake a tangible connection to nature and water, while the area around Karlsnäsgården is an interesting starting point for further activities in the countryside.

Kallinge on Hangarvägen is considered the recommended starting point for the Karlsnäsleden trail. If you include the trail in your travel plans, you should specifically take this starting point into account. Another nature destination is located at the car park on Västervägen: From there, a path leads into the Moabacken nature reserve. Both details help you distinguish between different nature experiences without combining them into a single route.

Kallinge and the History of Kockums

Kallinge Museum presents the history of Kallinge through a collection of cast-iron objects from Kockums Järnverk. Other areas of the museum contain information and objects relating to Kallinge’s society, companies and community life. This gives those interested in culture an insight that encompasses not only industrial production but also life in the local area.

In addition, Modelladan displays wooden models from the cast-iron production of Kockums Järnverk. The exhibits include models from a large part of Kockums’ production from 1888 to 1970, including cast-iron and enamelled products. Modelladan is opened for visits by prior arrangement with the Ronneby Musei- och hembygdsförening. You should therefore plan this visit with the required advance booking.

The old industrial chapel is also part of this historical context. It was originally Kockums’ exhibition pavilion at the 1896 industrial exhibition in Malmö. Kallinge Church is covered by nine brick vaults resting on four granite columns. Another special place is Ekholms Fotoateljé: It is one of Sweden’s oldest and smallest daylight studios and was built in 1929 by photographer Oscar Ekholm. His cameras and darkroom equipment have been preserved in the photo studio, including a large studio camera from the 1930s.
