Banvallsleden is a 29-kilometer-long paved, traffic-free cycling route between Sölvesborg and Olofström. It follows a former railway line. Halen runt offers a different perspective: the 20-kilometer cycling route follows paved and gravel paths around Lake Halen through a historic cultural landscape. The differences in length, surface and route type are clear: Banvallsleden is nine kilometers longer and connects two towns, while Halen runt is a loop around the lake and includes both of the named types of path.
For mountain biking, there is a 4.3-kilometer MTB trail on forest paths in the woods around Brännaregården. Its designated route and forest-path surface set it apart from the two longer cycling routes. If you want to include cycling in your stay, you can choose between the paved connection, the loop with paved and gravel paths, and this MTB trail, without assuming that they have different difficulty levels.
Parks and museums
Aniara Park is located by the Holje River and features sculptures, green spaces and walking paths. It is named after Harry Martinson’s famous epic poem “Aniara.” The park combines time outdoors with a literary connection. For visitors who want to include cultural attractions alongside activities on the lake, this is another distinctive aspect of Olofström.
Olofström is also home to the world’s only gallows museum. The local heritage museum is in Holje Park, in a stone building dating from the 19th century. The building and its location in the park give a museum visit a different historical context from the Stenmuseum in Vilshult. This is in the municipality of Olofström and features an industrial history exhibition about diabase mining.
