Munkebo between the Fjord, Walking Trails and History

The Munkebostien encircles Munkebo from Odense Fjord in the north to Kertinge Nor in the south. The continuous walking trail is 20 km long and gives your trip a clear, active perspective on the town. Along the Munkebostien, there are 15 information boards; each one provides information about the history and nature of the area concerned. As a result, the route occupies its own place in the day's itinerary, while the information boards provide thematic stopping points along the way.

Four routes and a shared starting point

Another way to explore Munkebo is the Kløverstien. It consists of four routes, all of which begin at a centrally located Kløverstien marker. This shared starting point gives you a clear starting point for planning your day. On the Kløverstien, you can experience the history of Lindøværftet, the inlet and the fjord, as well as the moraine landscape, villages and cultural landscape around Munkebo.

Active hours at Munkebo Multipark

Movement is at the heart of Munkebo Multipark. A 1.6 km paved path runs around the entire Munkebo Multipark and is suitable for walking, running and cycling. The 1.6 kilometres can be incorporated into a day's itinerary as a compact section. The street-sports facilities include pole football, street basketball, various ball games, as well as skateboarding and scooter facilities.

There are boardwalks around the lake in Munkebo Multipark. At Munkebo MultiPark Shelters, there are three large shelters, a fire pit, as well as a covered seating and reclining area. The fire pit and the covered seating and reclining area complement the three shelters with additional spaces in the Multipark.

Miniature village and local history

Munkebo Miniby consists of around 100 miniature houses that are exact copies, down to the last detail, of the houses in the old fishing village of Munkebo as they stood in 1956. The Munkebo Miniby workshop can be visited by visitors during opening hours when staff are present. This gives you a direct view of the historic buildings, reproduced in miniature form.

Munkebo Bakke: History, Views and Glacial Landscape

Archaeological excavations on Munkebo Bakke have documented a settlement and a centre of power from the Late Iron Age and the Viking Age. This period is dated to approximately 550 to 950 AD. From the observation tower on Munkebo Bakke, the view extends across Odense Fjord, Kertinge Nor and the Great Belt. The formation of the hill is also part of its specific profile: Munkebo Bakke acquired its present shape during the last Ice Age, 12,000 to 15,000 years ago. The steep northern slope formed as a terminal moraine after the Storebælt glacier came to an abrupt halt from the south-east. The dating of the finds and the formation of the hill belong to different historical periods.
