TÃ¥rup between Sybergland and Village History

Tårup combines a landscape shaped by water and agriculture with clearly recognisable traces of village and industrial history. Sybergland in particular defines the character of the area: it is a central part of Tårup Inddæmmede Strand and offers opportunities for observing nature, walking and cycling tours.

Sybergland and the Landscape around the Former Fjord

Before it was diked in 1812, Tårup Inddæmmede Strand was an arm of Odense Fjord. Tårup Strand was completely drained in the mid-1920s so that grain could be grown there. Sybergland covers 72 hectares and is named after the painter Fritz Syberg. Sybergland is also home to a reconstruction of Villa Hjulben. Walking and cycling routes pass larger lakes, ponds and meadows. Highland cattle graze the meadows all year round, while large numbers of birds can be observed in Sybergland throughout the year.

Routes for Active Days

Several specific route options are available for finding your way along the paths. The red route in Sybergland is 8.4 kilometres long. Cycle route 42 Kerteminde–Martofte passes through Tårup towards Mesinge. The Hindsholm rundt 2 route also runs through the village along Tårup Bygade; after leaving Tårup, it continues along a field track. This makes it possible to include the landscape and village scenery from different perspectives in your own day planning.

Village Street, Farms and Historic Traces

Tårup’s historic farms are scattered along the winding village street. In the 2013–25 municipal plan, Tårup is designated as a village with significant conservation value. At Tårup Bygade 32 stands a half-timbered house built in 1775, with a thatched roof and an angular floor plan. A distinctive historic environment surrounds the forge by the village pond; Tårup Maskinfabrik was founded there and was later called Kverneland.

Older ownership and family connections can also be traced in the village and its surroundings. The former estate of Torslundegård existed in Tårup from 1573 to 1631. The nearby church in Mesinge contains a large memorial stone for Regitze Ulfeld, who was married to Erik Hardenberg of Torslundegård. The history of transport also includes the former Odense–Kerteminde–Martofte railway line, which had a stopping place in Tårup.
