Beach and Cliff on Marstal Bay

Ristinge Beach is located on the west coast in the south of Langeland, on Marstal Bay. The one-kilometre-long sandy beach has fine sand and a sandy seabed. When planning a day by the sea, this section of beach in Ristinge can be considered as a route in its own right.

Cliff Landscape and Special Nature

Ristinge Klint is two kilometres long and up to 28 metres high. The cliff is accessible via a car park and paths; hiking trails run along the cliff. At two kilometres, Ristinge Klint is twice as long as the one-kilometre-long beach. In the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago, Ristinge Klint is designated as an international geosite. Visitors to the cliff can use the car park and paths for access and follow the hiking trail along the cliff.

The natural area also includes the diked Ristinge Nor. The damp, marsh-like meadow has a particularly rich population of orchids, including heath spotted orchid and broad-leaved marsh orchid. The eastern part of this meadow lies below sea level and belongs to the diked Ristinge Nor. Between the diked Ristinge Nor and the cliff, which is up to 28 metres high, there are therefore different elevations in the landscape.

Dark-Sky Route for Walking and Night Skies

The Dark-Sky Route on Ristinge Klint offers a long version of 7.3 kilometres and a short version of 2.6 kilometres. The long version follows the cliff path, around Ristinge Hale and through the village to Ristinge Harbour. On clear nights, constellations, planets and the Milky Way can be observed along the Dark-Sky Route. The short version is 4.7 kilometres shorter than the long one; this difference can be taken into account as an additional walking distance when planning the day.

History on the Cliff and in the Village

The Dysse chamber on Ristinge Klint is located at the highest point of the cliff. From this highest point, the view extends over the sea to the north, south and west. The Dysse chamber was protected in 1905 through an agreement with the farm owner K. Nielsen Drost.

Ristinge Church is also part of the village’s history. It was built in 1880. The church contains an altarpiece painted by Johannes Kragh, installed in 1912, depicting the motif from Matt. 11:28.

Harbour, Shelters and Catches

Three small shelters stand directly by the water at Ristinge Harbour. Depending on the weather, you can buy freshly caught fjord shrimp, eels, mullet, sea trout and flatfish at Ristinge Harbour. With northerly winds, Ristinge Hale is considered a suitable place for sport fishing, particularly by anglers. At Ristinge Harbour, the shelters and the possible purchase of fresh catches can be included in the same stay by the water.
