Bergvik combines hiking and nature experiences with a range of cultural highlights. Hiking takes center stage at Bergviks udde, while Bergviks kyrka and the Bergviks Industrial Museum offer insights into architecture and industrial history. The river, lakes and Badkullen bathing area add a connection to the water. When planning a trip, you can therefore take different interests into account, including nature, outdoor activities, water and local history.

Hiking at Bergviks udde

Bergviks udde is a popular recreational area, used primarily for hiking and nature experiences. From the parking area, a marked trail leads along paths and wooden boardwalks to the headland; there, a footpath runs all the way around the udde. The outing can therefore be thought of as a walk to the headland followed by a circuit around it. The directions distinguish between a marked access trail and the footpath that follows the shape of the headland. For those looking to spend time outdoors and get active, this is the clearest hiking destination in Bergvik.

Woodland nature southwest of Bergvik

Another hiking destination lies outside the town: Långnäsudden Nature Reserve is 5 km southwest of Bergvik. There, you can hike through lush deciduous woodland with a varied array of plants and abundant birdlife. This offers a choice between two distinct nature experiences: at Bergviks udde, the footpath circles the headland, while Långnäsudden showcases deciduous woodland and its plant and bird life. Those choosing an outing based on its landscape can easily distinguish between these two destinations.

River, lakes and bathing area

The Ljusnan River flows through Bergvik. Lake Bergviken lies west of the town, while Lake Marmen lies to the east. You can go paddling on Bergviken in the Söderhamn area. There are also specific directions to the Badkullen bathing area: the entrance is in Bergvik, to the right of the power station opposite the museum; the bathing area is a few hundred meters farther on, to the left of the gravel road. As local road conditions can change, it is advisable to check these directions before your visit.

Church architecture and industrial history

Bergviks kyrka stands by Lake Bergviken and combines Art Nouveau and National Romantic styles. It was inaugurated in 1915 and is exceptionally well preserved, both inside and out. The combination of these two styles makes the church a distinctive point of interest for those interested in architecture. The Bergviks Industrial Museum presents another aspect of local history: the story of the sulphite mill that began operating in Bergvik in 1874. Bergvik was home to the world's first sulphite mill. Since 1976, the Tyr steam locomotive has been located beside the museum. The church and museum offer contrasting perspectives: architectural history on the one hand, and industrial history and a locomotive on the other.
