The “Torup – Yellow Route” leads through open countryside with organic and conventional farming. Its character is defined by the wide sky and the agriculture-dominated surroundings. From Hillerød, the route can be reached by taking the Frederiksværkbanen railway to Dyssekilde Station. The local railway also stops in Torup and connects the town with other parts of Halsnæs. A marked 4.5 km hike leads through Dyssekilde and along field margins to the Engmosegaard farm shop. Along the way, the hike through Torup offers immediate impressions of birdlife and nature in open landscapes on the edge of Kongernes Nordsjælland National Park. This allows you to combine a clearly defined walk with impressions of the landscape and surroundings. The fixed length of 4.5 km gives the walk a clear framework for planning your day. At the same time, the two routes differ in character: the “Yellow Route” emphasises the open agricultural landscape, while the marked route connects Dyssekilde, field margins and the Engmosegaard farm shop.

Church, Books and Village History

Torup Church dates from the 12th century. It contains a Romanesque granite baptismal font, frescoes from around 1250, a crucifix from around 1300 and a church nave from 1750. The crucifix is considered unique in Northern Europe. The church therefore offers several clearly dated examples from different periods in one place. The chronological span of these examples thus ranges from the 12th to the 18th century. Torup Book Town is also part of the town’s cultural profile. Visitors can browse antiquarian books there. Torup Book Town also hosts author events, including the annual Nordisk Forfattertræf. Torup Market is located in Torup at Dyssekilde Station, in the immediate vicinity of the Dyssekilde eco-village. The market offers local food and other locally produced quality goods connected with the land. In 2026, Torup Market was open on Saturdays in odd-numbered calendar weeks from June to October, each time from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Torup Spisehus is a small restaurant in Torup that focuses on local ingredients from surrounding farms. The market and Spisehus therefore have different focuses: the former centres on locally produced goods, while the latter focuses on using local ingredients in a small restaurant.
