Rungsted Kyst between Harbour, Beach and Karen Blixen
Rungsted Kyst offers you different sides of a waterside holiday: the maritime character of Rungsted Harbour, the fine sand of Rungsted Beach, paths through natural landscapes and the cultural history surrounding Karen Blixen. When choosing where to stay, it is therefore worth deciding first what you would like to focus on. Should the day be shaped by harbour atmosphere and the beach, or are nature, activity and historical impressions the main priorities?
Harbour and Beach by the Øresund
Rungsted Harbour is Denmark’s third-largest marina and has 850 berths. The popular harbour promenade connects cosy shops with inviting restaurants. From there, you can look out over the boats and maritime life, while the shops and restaurants accompany your walk along the promenade.
Rungsted Beach offers a different experience. Here you can expect fine sand, bathing jetties, shallow water and beach volleyball. Compared with the harbour promenade, the focus here is therefore on water and activity, while the promenade brings together shops, restaurants, boats and maritime life. The beach area thus places greater emphasis on the immediate shoreline than on the surroundings of the harbour promenade.
Walking, Cycling and Golf
For active days, Rungsted Hegn and Folehave offer three marked walking or running routes measuring 9.5 km, 5.2 km and 2.4 km. The three distances provide different time frames: at 2.4 km, one route is clearly shorter than the 9.5 km route, allowing walking or running to take up different amounts of time during the day. The 5.2 km route falls between these two lengths and offers a medium option for the day’s activity. This makes it possible to choose between a shorter, medium or longer route when planning your day. In Folehave, including the northern part of Rungsted Hegn, cycling is permitted on roads and paths; you must stay on the roads and paths. Anyone cycling there must therefore plan their route around the available roads and paths.
Golf is another possible focus. The Rungsted Golf Klub course is located in natural surroundings with varied terrain, trees, shrubs, lakes and streams. The trees and shrubs stand alongside the lakes and streams, providing a natural setting for the varied terrain. Rungsted Golf Klub accepts green fee guests with a maximum handicap of 30.
Rungstedlund and Karen Blixen
Rungstedlund is the historic home of the Dinesen family, where Karen Blixen was born in 1885 and died in 1962; today, it is a museum. At the Rungstedlund Museum, you can see Karen Blixen’s original rooms. In addition, the bird sanctuary at Rungstedlund covers 15 hectares and was established by Karen Blixen in 1958.
