Hundested: Harbour, Coast and Trails along the Kattegat
Hundested between Harbour, Coast and Trails
If you view Hundested as a starting point for a trip combining harbour, coast, nature and active days, you will find several clearly distinct points of interest here. The route from Hundested to Hald is considered one of the best places in Denmark for sea trout fishing. In Hundested itself, the options range from the 300-metre-long Trekanten beach, with fine sand and a sandy seabed, to trails and cycle routes that start in the town or connect it with other destinations. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether harbour life, the beach, culture or outdoor activities should be the focus of your trip.
Harbour Life and Maritime Experiences
There is a ferry connection from Hundested Harbour to Rørvig. The arrangements for visiting sailors are clearly defined: they must enter the outer harbour, the marina or the southern harbour; the commercial harbour may not be entered. At a small coffee roastery, visitors can buy beans to take home, while the harbour is also home to a local brewery. In the creative quarter, you can watch glassblowers and jewellery designers at work.
Cycling and Hiking Trails around Hundested
Several routes of different lengths are available for active days. Route 2 of the Fjordstien runs from Hundested to Frederiksværk and is 15 kilometres long. The Nordkyststien is a cycling and hiking trail from Hundested to Helsingør. The Halsnæs Sundhedskorridor is approximately 10 kilometres long and starts and ends at Hundested railway station. The different route lengths provide a concrete guide when you want to include either a shorter connection or a longer journey through the region in your travel plans.
Halsninoen is also intended for walkers: the trail network consists of paths and quiet side roads with public access for walking. The route passes through municipal, state and private areas. This means that Hundested can be explored not only through individual destinations, but also through the nature and course of its trails.
Museums, Sand Art and Family Experiences
Knud Rasmussen's House is a museum offering insights into the life and achievements of the polar explorer. At Hundested Sand Sculpture Park, sand artworks are created by artists from around the world. Children and adults can try sand painting there. The harbour is also home to “Klap en Fisk”, a 75-square-metre floating platform with two shallow touch pools. Next to Hundested Havnehytter is the small nature playground “Sælernes legeplads”, with swings, nets and climbing frames.
Views of the Beach and Landscape along the Kattegat
From Spodsbjerg, there is a magnificent view across the Kattegat towards Hesselø. Spodsbjerg Fyr can only be viewed from the outside. The lighthouse is located in a partly protected area with steep coastal slopes and hilly terrain. As another destination on the same level, you can also access Torup.
