Beach between sand and shallow water

At Sildestrup Beach, you will find white sand and shallow water. The water is also child-friendly – a specific coastal aspect for families who, when choosing their holiday destination, look for a clearly identifiable beach.

Sildestrup Beach is located in front of the Marielyst holiday home area on Falster. For your travel planning, this beach can therefore serve as a separate focus alongside nature observation, hiking routes and cycling tours.

Forest, Nor and birdlife

In the area around Sildestrup, Bøtøskoven covers 153 hectares and has a 2 km coastline. Thus, alongside the beach, an extensive forest and coastal area is also available as a theme for active days.

Bøtøskoven borders Bøtø Nor. The approximately 200-hectare area consists of a shallow lake, meadows and reeds, complementing the forest with a distinctly different landscape.

In the area around Sildestrup, Bøtø Nor is part of the Natura 2000 network. The area was designated because of its outstanding populations of waterbirds, especially geese, swans and ducks.

The landscape around Bøtø Nor can be broadly divided into three areas: the dune landscape on the east coast, the Nor and the hilly country in the west. This sequence makes different landscape forms around Sildestrup visible, without reducing the area to the beach alone.

In the Bøtø Nor bird protection area, you can observe waders, geese, ducks and birds of prey in the area around Sildestrup, including white-tailed eagles. From the Bøtø Nor observation tower, the northern tower in Sydfalster, you can also observe the birdlife in the Bøtø Nor reserve.

Hiking, cycling and paddling

The Bøtø Nor hiking route “Hvid rute” leads in the area around Sildestrup from Bøtøskoven to Bøtø Nor Gl. Pumpestation near Marrebæk. The route connects forest and Nor landscapes.

For cyclists, the 38 km Kyst til kyst route passes through the Sildestrup holiday home area. The route is signposted throughout, providing a defined point of reference for planning a longer cycling tour.

There is also a documented route section on the water: Stage 4 of the Around Falster canoe and kayak tour is approximately 19 km long. The approximate length remains the key point of reference.

Pump station and the history of southern Falster

In the area around Sildestrup, Bøtø Nor Gl. Pumpestation houses a large exhibition on the history of southern Falster – from a natural harbour to a natural area. This makes the pump station a place where the landscape and regional development can be considered together.

Historically, Bøtø Nor Gl. Pumpestation protected southern Falster from permanent flooding for more than 60 years. The history of the site is therefore closely connected with the management of water and the protection of the landscape.

Historically, the shallow Bøtø Nor extended from Sildestrup to Gedesby. This former connection with the landscape broadens the perspective beyond today’s beach and the individual natural areas.
