Pölchow is located about ten kilometers south of Rostock city center. The municipality belongs to the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany.
Landscape
The surrounding area lies approximately 40 meters higher than the lower-lying Warnow Valley. The Warnow Valley east of Pölchow is designated as a protected landscape area. Bullenberg and Klünnerberg are also located nearby, both classified as hills.
History
Pölchow has the historic settlement form of a Rundling. The settlement was first recorded as „Polchowe“ in 1275; Huckstorf and Wahrstorf were first recorded in 1314 and 1337, respectively. Due to local clay deposits, brickmaking took place in the area from the mid-19th century onward. Pölchow has been connected to the Bad Kleinen–Rostock railway line since 1894.
