Rerik between the Baltic Sea and the Salzhaff
Accommodation in Rerik
In Rerik, the Baltic Sea and the Salzhaff together shape the coastal landscape: in front of the town lies a fine sandy beach about six kilometres long, inviting visitors to swim and enjoy leisure activities by the sea. The distance between the Baltic Sea and the shallow Salzhaff is about 200 metres. When planning your stay, you can therefore decide whether to focus on the beach and sea, water sports on the Salzhaff, or exploring the surrounding area.

Water sports on two bodies of water
Rerik offers opportunities for rowing, sailing and surfing on two different stretches of water. The Salzhaff is the calmer body of water; beginners can practise there, while experienced sportspeople can head out onto the Baltic Sea. Rerik also has two surf schools where you can learn windsurfing. This allows you to focus your stay on activities on the Baltic Sea or the Salzhaff, without implying that the two bodies of water offer the same conditions.
Stand-up paddleboarding is also possible on the usually calm Salzhaff. Taster courses are planned for the main season. Also planned for the main season are round trips of about two hours on the Salzhaff aboard the MS “Ostseebad Rerik”, led by the captain. If you would rather fish from the shore, you can do so from the pier or the beach; fishing from a boat is also possible.
Coast, landscape and trails
Northeast of the pier lies a scenic stretch of steep coastline. It is bordered by a coastal woodland strip and the upper shore path. The seaside resort is also surrounded by protected landscapes that invite visitors to explore and enjoy extended walks. The hilly coastal area nearby offers opportunities for cycle tours along the Baltic coast. If you are considering different kinds of active days, you will find both walking destinations and opportunities for cycling in the surrounding area.
The Haff promenade runs from the Mutter-Kinder-Kurheim along the Salzhaff to Haffplatz, inviting visitors to take a walk or stroll. Another point of reference for a tour: Suggested Tour 1 starts and ends in Rerik and is about 23 kilometres long. You can take this approximate distance into account when planning your day.
Local history and views
Schmiedeberg offers panoramic views of Rerik, the Baltic Sea and the surrounding area. Schmiedeberg is the remains of an old Slavic rampart. The viewpoint therefore also offers a tangible link to the town’s history. St. John’s Church also provides a glimpse into the past: its interior was completely remodelled in the 17th and 18th centuries and given Baroque furnishings. For centuries, the church served as a vital landmark for sailors and fishermen.
From 15 May to 15 September, free guided tours of St. John’s Church are planned for Mondays at 10 a.m. There are also eight well-maintained megalithic tombs around the seaside resort, marked with information boards for visitors. Guided tours of the tombs are regularly offered on Thursdays from May to September. If you are interested in coastal landscapes and traces of earlier cultures, you can explore different aspects of the nearby area.
The Haffanleger, a waterway rest stop, is located in the Salzhaff directly beside the fishing landing stage. To compare profiles of other towns, see also KĂĽhlungsborn and Nienhagen.
