In Belsch, a route into a vast heath and dune landscape begins: the Dune Trail starts in Ramm, a district of Belsch, and leads through a pine forest to a tea house on the edge of the landscape area.

Trails

As a round trip, the Dune Trail is approximately 7.5 kilometers long in the Belsch area. From Ramm, it follows the signposted direction to Loosen and the signpost “Teehaus 1 km”.

From the seating area along the Dune Trail, there is a view of an inland dune described as one of the largest remaining mobile inland dunes in Germany.

Nature

Belsch is located in the Griese Gegend. This area is characterized by heaths, meadows, pine forests, moors, sandy soil, and mobile inland dunes. The Sude and Zarensbach rivers flow through the northern part of the municipality.

The nearby Lübtheen Heath has been part of Germany’s National Natural Heritage since 2017. Its open, mobile inland dunes and extensive heathlands provide habitat for specialized species such as sand beetles and tawny pipits. Since April 1, 2021, some paths in the Lübtheen Heath have been open to pedestrians and cyclists. Visitors must stay on the paths designated for pedestrians and cyclists, as ammunition and unexploded ordnance may be present away from the paths.

Surroundings

The hills Bohnenberg, Rähmelberg, and Fuchsberg are located approximately in the vicinity of Belsch. The Salzquelle spring and the “Conow, Village Church” church are also located in this area. Buchberg is likewise in the vicinity of Belsch.

Cycling and Culture

On the return leg of the cycling excursion through the Jabel Heath, the route passes through Belsch and later joins a separate cycle path near the Gößlow junction. Around 20 cycling and hiking tours for the Griese Gegend have been compiled in the “Entdeckerrouten” material; a free app with route information is also available.

The Redefin State Stud is located nearby in Redefin and is considered a noteworthy and worthwhile attraction. Since the early 18th century, it has been closely associated with Mecklenburg horse breeding.

In Belsch, a hall house and a barn at Loosener Weg 22 are recognized as cultural monuments.

The Dömitz Fortress and the ancient sites Opferberg and Wendischer Burgwall are located approximately in the wider regional surroundings of Belsch.
