Pätow-Steegen: Hotels and Accommodation

The Hagenow Countryside Tour is a cycling route through the Hagenow area. It starts and ends in Hagenow and passes through Steegen. Along the route, it crosses the fields to Warlitz Church and then continues to the cottagers’ houses in Steegen.

Cycling and Cultural Routes

The Hagenow Countryside Tour is 32 kilometres long, while the Hagenow Church Tour is 50 kilometres long. Warlitz Church is also part of the Sacred Buildings Cycling Route, a cycling route focused on religious cultural heritage. The two Explorer Routes connect religious sites with information about local history and agricultural use; audio texts and images are available at the stations.

In the vicinity of Pätow-Steegen stands the late Baroque village church in Warlitz, built between 1765 and 1768. Its Rococo furnishings have been preserved.

Landscape and Nature

The Ehmkenberg hill is located near Pätow-Steegen. The surrounding area also contains the Hellberg, Goldberg and Steinbecksberg hills.

The Hagenow Bekow is a more than 600-hectare nature conservation area with bogs, ponds, mixed woodland, wet meadows and former clay pits. It can be explored on hiking trails. There is also the 2.5-kilometre Pilzy Nature Experience Trail, which combines nature, art and interactive activities. A marked trail in the Bekow can be explored with an audio guide or the Explorer Routes app, providing information about landforms, animals and plants.

History and Museums

The documented history of Pätow-Steegen dates back to its first mention in 1194. The surrounding area is home to St George’s Village Church in Camin. Further afield in the region is the Marsow fieldstone church.

Hagenow’s Museum of Everyday Culture presents its permanent exhibition in a rural townhouse dating from 1828 and historic outbuildings. It covers regional history, traditional crafts, technology and industrialisation. The synagogue complex in Hagenow comprises the main synagogue building, a carriage shed and the old schoolhouse, and provides a venue for cultural events.

Further afield in the Pätow-Steegen region are the State Museum in Schwerin and the Staatliches Museum Schwerin.

Other Destinations in the Area

Gut Schwechow is located in the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve amid extensive apple orchards. It offers fruit brandies and a farm shop selling regional products. Visitors to the Schwechow distillery can book a distillery tour with tasting and learn about the production process during an approximately one-hour introduction.

The Zachun water-ski lift is located in the surrounding area of Pätow-Steegen. Further afield in the region is the Schwerin-Zippendorf television tower, which offers a viewing point.
