Cycling and hiking days between Lewitz and Garwitz

If you would like to combine your stay with cycling, hiking and experiences in nature, Lewitzrand offers specific destinations for a variety of day plans. From the villages in the municipality of Lewitzrand, extensive hikes and cycling tours begin in the Lewitz protected landscape area. Recommended destinations include the Klinken Cultural Trail, the Garwitz Cultural Trail, the Pingelhof in Alt Damerow, the observation tower at the Dütchow high bridge, the carp ponds in the Lewitz, and Friedrichsmoor hunting lodge and forest area. The Garwitz-Damm Elde hiking trail is one of the routes recommended by the municipality for excursions.

The range therefore extends from village churches and bodies of water to technical and rural excursion destinations.

The circular hiking trail, or forest path, to the Pingelhof Museum begins and ends at the waterway rest area in Garwitz. In addition, the circular route Garwitz – Müritz-Elde Waterway – Malchow – Pingelhof – Garwitz is approximately 10 km long. This distance provides a specific point of reference if you would like to include a circular tour in your day plan.

History and architectural heritage in Rusch, Klinken and Garwitz

A local history room is housed in the historic forester's lodge in the Rusch district. In Klinken, the church has a medieval rib vault and restored wall paintings. The history of the upper gate of the old Garwitz lock is particularly vivid as well: it was built in 1894, and its wooden gate was renewed in 1989. During the basic reconstruction of the lock in 2000 and 2001, it was dismantled and installed above the lock. It has been preserved there as a technical monument and can be viewed by visitors.

Experiencing nature and spending time by the water

The Klinker Plage nature reserve is a habitat for rare and, in some cases, endangered animal and plant species. In Rusch, near Raduhn, visitors can browse three pottery workshops. Nature observation and craft-oriented places thus add a variety of further impressions to the paths and sights.

For a day of swimming, the Garwitz Elde swimming pool offers a large sunbathing lawn, a baby pool, a non-swimmer pool and a swimming pool with four 50-metre lanes. The annual Neptune Festival is a tradition at the Garwitz Elde swimming pool and adds a regularly recurring event by the water to the facilities on offer.

Lewitzcamp-Garwitz is a small, unspoilt campsite directly on the Müritz-Elde Waterway.
