The Museum of Everyday Culture of the Griese Gegend in Hagenow presents the cultural and settlement history of the Griese Gegend. This includes historic building traditions with old farmhouses and houses made of bog iron stone. At the same time, the institution provides insight into the social and everyday culture of the Griese Gegend, as well as traditional crafts from earlier times.
The Museum of Everyday Culture Hagenow was founded in 1974 and has stood next to the town church since 1983. Its complex includes a main building with brewery, distillery, granary, and stable buildings, as well as older historic houses. The collections comprise several thousand objects relating to the history of the town of Hagenow, crafts, and folklore.
Geographical location
Hagenow covers 67 km² and lies 25 meters above sea level. The wider surrounding region includes the Schwerin-Zippendorf television tower, the State Museum Schwerin, the Staatliches Museum Schwerin, and Großer Werder.
The immediate surroundings of Hagenow include Hellberg, Ehmkenberg, and Goldberg. The Zachun water-ski lift is also located in the surrounding area.
