Ankershagen is located directly on the Müritz National Park, on an Ice Age terminal moraine ridge running from east to west.

Nature

The village lies on a watershed between streams that flow into the Baltic Sea and waterways that reach the North Sea via the Havel and the Elbe. The Havel rises near Ankershagen and flows for more than 300 kilometres before reaching the Elbe.

In the immediate surroundings of Ankershagen are Flötenberg, Schäferberg, Steinburg and Birkenberg.

Culture and History

The listed village church in Ankershagen is one of the oldest preserved fieldstone churches in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and stands opposite the Heinrich Schliemann Museum; at the same time, Ankershagen is associated with the Schliemann Museum. Several districts organise village festivals and other local events.

In the wider regional surroundings of Ankershagen are Wildberg, “Kittendorf, Village Church”, the Kulturpark and Kirch Poppentin.
