Landscape

Groß Kiesow is forested in the north, while relatively flat arable land stretches across a glacial ridge in the south. The transition to the northern forest includes marshy meadows and drainage ditches.

Geographical location

Groß Kiesow lies south of Greifswald and is administered by Amt Züssow, whose seat is in Züssow. Groß Kiesow is approximately 15 kilometers southeast of Greifswald and nine kilometers northwest of Züssow.

Culture and history

Groß Kiesow was first documented in 1248 under the name Skysogh in a boundary description of Hilda Monastery (Eldena). Groß Kiesow is home to St. Lawrence Church and old gravestones.

Dambeck, a locality within Groß Kiesow, had a manor house that housed an LPG office and a kindergarten. On July 1, 1950, Dambeck was incorporated into Groß Kiesow.
