Beach and water sports

Stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and sailing are offered or practiced at Baabe beach. This puts different forms of water sports in focus: stand-up paddleboarding involves moving across the water, while windsurfing and sailing harness the wind. The beach is described as having 1.5 km of fine sand, and its 17 access points provide a specific figure to help visitors find their way around Baabe beach. Harbor, ferry and routes

Baaber Bollwerk, or the harbor, offers moorings for 25 recreational boats and two passenger ships. A rowing-boat ferry also runs from Baabe harbor to the opposite shore of the Having. It takes visitors and bicycles to Moritzburg. Along with the beach, the harbor, its moorings and the ferry add other dimensions to the Baabe holiday experience.

Baabe also mentions buses and the Bäderbahn for connections between towns: bus route 25 connects the Baltic Sea resorts of Baabe and Sellin. Holidaymakers can use the Bäderbahn to reach sights, the beach and important places in the towns. If your travel plans include routes between Baabe and Sellin as well as a stay by the sea, both of these transport options are useful points of reference.

Promenade toward Sellin and Göhren

The Baabe beach promenade is an extension of Göhren’s “Bernsteinpromenade.” It runs from Baabe to the Baltic Sea resort of Sellin and is a starting point for walks toward Sellin or Göhren. This means you can include walks in your plans for Baabe rather than making the beach the sole focus of your stay.

Mönchguttor and regional history

In Baabe, Mönchguttor marks the boundary between the Mönchgut Peninsula and the rest of Rügen. It was built in 2003 and is decorated with wooden figures of a farm woman, a fisherman, a monk and a knight. These figures are significant representations of the region’s history and culture. The gate thus connects a specific place in Baabe with regional themes that extend beyond the beach and water sports.

Fishing is also part of the town’s history. At Fischerstrand, by beach access point 5, visitors can watch fishermen at work; fishing has a long tradition in Baabe. Those interested in maritime culture can make this stretch of beach a focus in its own right, alongside activities on the water and walking routes.

Library and events

The Mönchgut Library is located in the Haus des Gastes in Baabe. Holders of a valid visitor’s card have access to a collection of around 9,450 books. These include around 4,200 works of fiction, 3,000 nonfiction books, and 2,250 children’s and young adult books. The approximate collection figures show the range of reading categories; the library is another cultural resource, particularly for guests interested in literature or nonfiction topics.

The Baltic Sea resort of Baabe offers an events program throughout the year, with festivals, spa concerts, children’s activities and readings for guests of all ages.
