Ummanz is an island in the Baltic Sea, west of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Geographical Location

Since 1901, Ummanz has been connected to Rügen by a 250-meter-long bridge.

Landscape and Bodies of Water

The island is bordered by the Schaproder Bodden, the Udarser Wiek, Lake Koselow and the Varbelvitzer Bodden.

Mährens is located in the vicinity of Ummanz, as are Liebitz and Großer Haken. Ummanz itself is also part of the immediate surroundings of Ummanz.

Beach and Nature

Suhrendorf has a sandy beach for swimming, while the island is associated with surfing and kitesurfing.

Birdwatching around Tankow is associated with the crane season.

Associated with Ummanz are a 15th-century church known as St. Marius Church and the annual Chalk Festival featuring traditional dance, regional music and handicrafts.

Schwedenschanze is located in the surrounding area of Ummanz. The nearby area also includes St. Mary's Church, Waase. The wider regional surroundings of Ummanz include Stralsund Zoo as well as Bergen and St. Mary's.
