The accessible beach promenade runs from Binz to the 76th beach access point in Prora, following an extension of 890 metres. The route can help you plan an exploration that takes in the promenade. The active beach areas in Binz and Prora have watersports centres offering activities with surfboards and stand-up paddleboards. Excursion boats depart from Binz pier for trips towards the chalk cliffs.
A distinctive annual event is PierSession, held at the summer solstice. The beach next to the pier becomes a beach club with electronic and live music. Villas, local history and Prora
The well-preserved spa architecture can be explored on walks along the promenade and through the neighbouring streets. Hiking in the Granitz and Fangerien forests
For a hike with views of the bay and the Baltic Sea, the Hochuferweg trail leads from Fischerstrand through the Granitz forest towards Sellin. Another hike starts at the Klünderberg car park, runs through the Granitz forest and the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve to Sellin, and stops at Granitz Hunting Lodge. The lodge stands on the 106-metre-high Tempelberg. Binz itself is nestled within the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve.
The hike “To the Rügen Natural Heritage Centre†also has its own starting point: it begins on the promenade by Lake Schmachter and heads north through the Fangerien woodland. The Rügen Natural Heritage Centre is in Prora and has a treetop walk. This gives nature and outdoor enthusiasts a choice of named destinations and routes without combining them into a single trail.
Market, spa park and getting there
On the shore of Lake Schmachter, Schmachter Market offers regional specialities and handmade products. Binz Spa Park adds a green space to the town centre: set among old trees, its 1.5 hectares offer room to relax, exercise and play. These places provide a different focus from the beach and hiking trails, giving you more options for your stay.
Binz is accessible by train, with IC and ICE connections from across Germany to the Baltic seaside resort. Buses run daily between Binz and Prora, serving various stops.
