In Zingst, the Baltic Sea beach and maritime experiences are among the defining features of the town. Just outside Zingst is a stone-free sandy beach up to 30 metres wide, monitored by lifeguards during the summer months. The pier is another prominent landmark: the current pier was inaugurated in May 1993 and is 270 metres long and 2.50 metres wide. It is an inviting place for a stroll at any time of year. If you want to plan your stay around the sea, you’ll find both a beach and a place to take a walk along the pier.

Beach days and activities on the water
In Zingst, visitors can swim in the Baltic Sea, paddle, kiteboard, surf, sail and kayak. The sports beach at beach access 14 is a specific meeting point for active beach days. There, visitors can windsurf, kiteboard and enjoy the sunset on a stand-up paddleboard. The Zingst Water Sports Centre offers courses in numerous water sports and rents out suitable equipment. Whether you’d prefer to try an activity first or develop your skills in a particular sport, these options offer different ways to enjoy days on the water.
The diving gondola is another attraction at the pier. It has been located at the end of the pier since 2013, can accommodate up to 30 people and allows visitors to explore the underwater world of the Baltic Sea. It offers a view beneath the water’s surface to complement the view of the sea. The beach, water sports and diving gondola each offer a different focus; when planning your visit, you can decide whether you’d rather be active on the water or explore the underwater world.
Science, history and culture
The Zingst Experimentarium is for children and adults alike. More than 70 interactive experiment stations cover science and technology. There is also a varied programme of workshops where visitors can create their own works of art. The venue offers opportunities both to try out the stations and to work creatively in the workshops.
The local history museum, housed in a former 19th-century captain’s house, tells the story of the Zingst peninsula. The historic museum courtyard includes several restored buildings with authentic furniture and objects, offering insights into rural life in centuries past. Those particularly interested in maritime history can also find a connection to the seafaring past in the cemetery: the sailors’ grave recalls Zingst’s maritime tradition and commemorates the sailors who lost their lives in the Baltic Sea.
Another historic site is the neo-Gothic St Peter and St Paul’s Church. It was built to designs by Friedrich August Stüler, a student of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, and consecrated in 1862. A series of evening concerts is held there every summer. The Max Hünten Haus regularly hosts exhibition openings and multimedia shows, as well as readings and other cultural events throughout the year. These different venues offer ways to include history, exhibitions or events in your stay, alongside the beach and the water.
The Zingsthof was built in 1929 and became significant during the Nazi era as a place of activity and gathering for members of the Confessing Church. The town’s history therefore also encompasses this period. The different historical themes can be explored separately when discovering Zingst: rural life at the museum courtyard, maritime remembrance at the cemetery and the history of the Zingsthof.
On the way to the national park exhibition
From Zingst, the Sundische Wiese National Park Exhibition can be reached by bicycle or on foot via the sea dyke and Osterwald forest. Another option is to take the country road east. Visitors who want to combine their time in Zingst with a trip to the exhibition can choose between different ways of getting there.
