Vilmnitz is home to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene, a late Romanesque-Gothic brick church. Its oldest surviving structural elements include the Romanesque eastern chancel and the sacristy; the nave, dating from the mid-14th century, was renovated in the 15th century.

The church contains an accessible crypt associated with the Putbus family, around 28 coffins, four large sandstone epitaphs dating from 1600, a Baroque pulpit from 1708/09, and a restored historic Mehmel organ. Concerts have been held there weekly on Thursday evenings during the summer months for more than 25 years.

The Church of Bergen, St. Mary, is also located in the area surrounding Vilmnitz. The ruins of the Peenemünde oxygen plant are located in the wider region around Vilmnitz.
