Flemming Between Village Structure and Educational History

Flemming preserves the traditional structure and building lines of a village and railway town. In the eastern part, old longhouses still stand along Flemmingvej and Buen. Flemming Østergård at Flemmingvej 22 has a half-timbered residence with a thatched roof as well as solidly bricked outbuildings. The village character is evident here in the preserved farmsteads and their location along the two roads.

The History of Flemming Efterskole

The history of the town includes Flemming Efterskole, which was founded in 1893 and is considered Denmark's longest-running efterskole. Joseph Pedersen founded the school; on 4 November 1893, the first cohort began with 22 young people. In addition, Flemming Efterskole Gymnastikforening offers children and young people aged 5 to 15 groups with training in jumping technique and participation in competitions. Thus, the school's historical connection extends to a precisely dated beginning with a first cohort of 22 young people.

Historical Traces in the Townscape

The station at Flemmingvej 31 was built between the old village road and the railway. The former railway line through Flemming ran approximately where Fredensvej is located today. The location of the station and the approximate route of the former railway line mark two distinct points in the history of transport. At the eastern edge of the town stands a grain and animal-feed business built around 1970, with a concrete silo, and it is considered a landmark. The former cooperative store was once a meeting place for the village.

Green Surroundings and the Skyggerslund Trail

Flemming is set in green surroundings with views across open fields. The marked Skyggerslund Trail is considered a 1.6 km route with two access points; Flemming Efterskole is regarded as the starting point. The trail passes over private land. Some sections may consist of informal paths, meaning that the season and plant growth can affect accessibility. Anyone planning to walk the Skyggerslund Trail can take the route length, the two access points and the starting point at Flemming Efterskole into account before setting out. The fixed length and the possible condition of individual sections are separate aspects of planning the walk. At Flemming Borgergrund, there is a fire pit, a large barbecue, a playground and a covered terrace; here, you can enjoy food or coffee brought with you.

Getting to Flemming

Bus route 114 between Horsens, Rask Mølle and Tørring stops at Flemming By and Flemming v/ Honum Skovvej. In the regional road network, Vestvejen connects the local road network at Flemming with the E45 at Horsens Syd and the Midtjyske Motorvej at Ølholm.
