Beaches and Local History in Stenderup

A walking tour of Stenderup can begin at the Romanesque church and continue past marked houses and along historic routes. If you would like to combine history with activity on your Baltic Sea trip, there are various points of interest in the village and its surroundings.

Romanesque Church and Special Details

Stenderup Church is a Romanesque building made of tuff, with a chancel, nave and western tower. These building elements provide an opportunity to explore the village’s older history through a specific structure.

Particularly striking is the north window in the chancel of Stenderup Church. Its decoration is dated to around 1150–1175 and depicts a large-leaved vine as well as two climbing figures. In addition to the building as a whole, this allows you to examine an individual detail with its own chronological context.

From Teglværk to a Railway Town

The Stenderup Teglværk is part of the area’s industrial history. Brick production began south of the church around 1845. In 1934, the brickworks employed 35 people and reached its peak in 1946.

If you prefer routes with a historical connection, you will find two stages of the Juelsminde Railway in Stenderup. The fifth stage continues from Brå to the former Stenderup Teglværk and the railway town of Stenderup.

The sixth stage passes through Stenderup, goes past Stenderup railway station and continues in the direction of Dallerup Skov. The old railway line is still visible in the forest there. Alongside the village, the route thus also brings a section of the former railway line into view.

The two stages have different focuses: the fifth leads to industrial and railway history, while the sixth connects the railway station, the direction of Dallerup Skov and the visible old railway line.

Fuglekær, Ruins and Beaches in the Surrounding Area

Fuglekær in Stenderup is a green space with shelters and fire pits, used for play and community activities. Stagsevold, a ruin, is also located in the surrounding area of Stenderup.
