Stouby between Fjord, Beach, Trails and Culture

Stouby is located near Vejle Fjord; the surrounding area is characterized by green forests, open landscapes and a diverse network of trails. The wooded coastal slopes at Stouby Beach are part of the Natura 2000 site “Skove langs nordsiden af Vejle Fjord”, Habitat Area No. 67 and Bird Protection Area No. 45.

Beach, Spa Trails and Lighthouse

Stouby Beach has a small beach and an elegant bathing pier that is open to everyone. The beach is also credited with excellent bathing water quality. The historic spa trails at Stouby Beach now serve as hiking trails through forest and coastal landscapes; one of the trails leads to Træskohage Lighthouse. There are also forest trails and a shelter site in the area around the lighthouse.

Træskohage Lighthouse was built by Vejle Havn in 1904 and is considered a landmark of the area around Stouby and Hotel Vejlefjord. The path to the tower has been renovated, so wheelchair users can also reach the tower. Træskohage Lighthouse has access to the inside of the tower. The grounds of Hotel Vejlefjord contain more than 20 kilometres of original spa trails. The park at Hotel Vejlefjord was laid out in 1901 in the Romantic landscape style, with bridges, streams and lakes.

Hiking and Cycling in Stouby

The Kløverstier trails in Stouby comprise four different routes. The black route is 10 kilometres long and runs through Stouby and onwards towards the fjord. The green route takes pedestrians, inline skaters, runners and people with prams through Stouby along illuminated roads and paths.

The surrounding area can also be explored by bicycle. Kulturringen Rosenvold-Hjarnø is a 46-kilometre, signposted cycling route on the Juelsminde Peninsula. Near Stouby, this route can be extended via Fakkegravvej. At Fakkegrav, seasonal fjord fishing for sea trout and garfish is possible, allowing the cycling tour to be combined with another maritime interest.

Water Activities and Maritime Destinations

Rosenvold Harbour offers walks in the forest and opportunities for sea bathing. The harbour has tables and benches where visitors can eat outdoors. At Rosenvold Strand Camping, sit-on-top kayaks for 2 to 3 people can be rented; SUP boards and sit-on-top kayaks can also be rented there. The combination of forest trails, sea and rentable equipment particularly appeals to travellers who enjoy dividing their days between land and water.

Church, Garden Centre and Events

Stouby Church was built around 1130 as a Romanesque church made of travertine. Its furnishings include pieces from many eras: a baptismal font believed to date from the 12th century, Gothic altar candlesticks from around 1500, a pulpit from 1640 and an altarpiece from 1731. Access to the church depends on the presence of the cemetery gardeners; opening is not guaranteed.

Det Kreative Gartneri is an old garden centre in Stouby that is now operated as a diverse shop and orangery. It offers plants, trees, flowers, flowerpots, gardening supplies, handicrafts, decorative items, retro furniture and works of art. Workshops and events are held there regularly, including ceramics courses, pumpkin carving and making Christmas decorations.

The annual cycle also includes events of various kinds. Stouby hosts an annual summer festival with activities for the entire town. The traditional Stoubyløb attracts locals and visitors. Kjørmesgildet takes place on 2 February at Multihuset in Stouby. Those choosing Stouby as a destination can incorporate nature, exercise, local history and local events into their own plans.

Mobility and Choosing a Location

Bus route 205 connects Vejle, Stouby and Juelsminde. In addition, Flextrafik offers flexible door-to-door transport in Stouby. When choosing accommodation or a hotel, the destinations in the town and the surrounding area provide different points of reference: you can focus on the trails by the fjord, the beach, historic sites, events or water activities without combining the various excursion destinations into a single circular route.
