Czarna Dąbrówka: Church, Architecture and Trails

Church and manor house

The former Evangelical church in Czarna Dąbrówka was built in 1935–1936. It was consecrated on 6 January 1947, after which it was used as a branch church of the Kozin parish. Its construction, consecration and ecclesiastical function form a clear historical sequence. Its former use as a branch church gives the building a clearly identified religious connection in addition to its architectural history.

A second architectural highlight is the manor house at 31 Bytowska Street. It is listed in heritage registers, built of brick and designed in the Eclectic style. The term describes architecture that brings together elements from different styles; the material and style provide two concrete points of reference for understanding the building’s design. The church and manor house thus represent different historical perspectives: the church’s consecration and use are documented, while the manor house is distinguished by its materials and design.

Hiking and trails

For hikers, two PTTK routes offer different connections to the village. The 67-kilometre “Dolina Łupawy” trail ends in Czarna Dąbrówka, while the “Krajobrazów młodoglacjalnych” trail passes through the village. On one route, Czarna Dąbrówka is the endpoint; on the other, it is part of the route. Before setting out, check the local trail markers for both.

A walking and cycling path also runs through the grounds of the health centre. Work in the vicinity of the path was completed in 2023. This provides a specific local point of reference for the walking and cycling path, in addition to the PTTK trails.

Nature and water in the municipality

A separate nature trail is located in Rokity, a village in Czarna Dąbrówka municipality. The “Przyjaciel lasu” nature and recreation trail has two forest lakes and three routes measuring 1,000 metres, 1,200 metres and about 1,700 metres. The shortest and longest options therefore differ by about 700 metres, making the three route lengths easy to compare.

Information boards along the trail cover nesting boxes and aquatic ecosystems, the role of water in the forest, and the forest’s life cycle and layers. Other topics include small mammals, forest fruits, protected plants, waste decomposition and the daily lives of birds. Educational games teach visitors to identify trees, birds and mushrooms. The trail therefore combines topics related to forests and water with specific opportunities for observation and learning.

Kayak trips on the Łupawa in the municipality usually start at the kayak launch in Łupawsko, on the lake’s left bank. In 2022, a kayak launch with a floating jetty and a slipway for launching kayaks was described in Łupawsko on Lake Jasień. A clear restriction applies to the section of the Łupawa between Kozin and Damno Młyn: it is recommended exclusively for experienced kayakers. Kozin is near Czarna Dąbrówka; the section is in the surrounding area, not within the village itself. Before paddling this section, check current local water conditions.

A running event with a clear date also forms part of the village’s history: the XXXI Ogólnopolski Bieg Orłów was described in 2022 as an annual race for children and adults in Czarna Dąbrówka; at the time, several dozen runners from all over Poland took part each year.
