Högsdorf: Hotels and Accommodation

Högsdorf can be explored particularly well via the route between Schoppelweg and Helmstorf: the trail combines nature and cultural walks, reaches Högsdorf via Schoppelweg, and continues towards Helmstorf.

Hiking

The route is designed as a point-to-point hike and covers approximately 13 kilometres; the estimated duration is around four hours. The trail has no steep sections. The Högsdorf–Lütjenburg section is suitable for pushchairs throughout. There are also burial mounds along the Högsdorf–Helmstorf trail.

Nature

Near Schoppelweg, a gap in the hedge opens up to offer views across cultivated fields. Large erratic boulders beside the trail are regarded as remnants of the Plön ice lobe from the Weichselian glaciation. The route crosses the Alte Mühlenau and leads through the Achtersöhren woodland, where large oak trees and a pond with pollarded willows can be found.

A woodland pond along the trail is described as featuring yellow flag irises, cowslips and red toothwort. One of the attractions along the route is the Gut Helmstorf nature trail.

History

Historical forms of Högsdorf’s name are HUSSEKENDORP, HOSTORPE, HÖSTORF and HOESTORFF; the place has borne its present name since 1810. In the Helmstorf estate district, a large part of the land was leased from the late 18th century until the estate districts were dissolved in 1927. The owner of the estate sold Högsdorf in 1928.

Another attraction along the trail is the former Lütjenburg–Gremsmühlen railway line, dating from 1892.

Mobility and Waterways

The route can be reached on bus route 310 from Kiel to Schmiedendorf; from Lütjenburg, there is a return connection towards Kiel. The Högsdorf Siedlung public transport stop is freely accessible at all times.

The Plön district has a well-developed network of cycle paths with destination and distance signs. The Schwentine water trail offers suggestions for paddling routes. The district also offers opportunities for sailing, sailing schools, boat hire and yacht charter.
