Landscape
The town of Plön is located in the Plön district in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park, surrounded by lakes, forests and meadows. The lake landscape and the adjacent areas belong to the hilly region known as Holstein Switzerland.
The inland part of the Plön district is covered by lakes. Lake Plön and Lake Selent are considered the two largest lakes in Schleswig-Holstein.
Zappen Warder, Ziegen Warder and Rotten Warder are located in the immediate vicinity of Plön. The surrounding area of Plön is also home to the Herb Museum, Riemannstein and Bischofswarder.
Townscape and History
The old town of Plön lies below the castle hill, with small independent shops and cafés. Plön Castle is a 17th-century castle on a hill overlooking the town and is regarded as the town's landmark.
