Laboe: Hotels and Accommodation
Directly on the beach in front of the Laboe Naval Memorial is the U 995 Technical Museum: the exhibit is a Type VII C submarine.
Culture
Access to the Laboe Naval Memorial is considered to have limited barriers. The Freya Frahm House, a beach villa dating from 1896, also stands on the promenade and is used year-round for exhibitions, readings and workshops.
The tour through Laboe passes the Lachmöwentheater, which is associated with performances in Low German.
Nature
Near the Laboe Naval Memorial lies the 10-hectare nature experience area “Dünenlandschaft Laboe”. It comprises a steep coastal slope, dunes, a shore zone with a sandbank and a beach lake.
Sandy paths, information boards and seasonal guided tours explain the nature of the Dünenlandschaft Laboe. A locally distinctive occurrence of three Mediterranean-Atlantic grass species is characteristic of the area.
Beach and Water
Laboe’s spa beach is a one-kilometre-long fine-sand beach with a designated beach sports area and shallow water.
In addition to U-995, Surfer's Paradise offers windsurfing, kitesurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, dinghy sailing and catamaran sailing. The one-hour marine biology excursions on the MS SAGITTA travel between shallow seagrass areas and the shipping channel of Kiel Fjord; a net haul provides an introduction to the benthic fauna.
Leisure
Laboe Spa Park includes a children’s playground, mini golf and a lawn for Viking chess. At the same time, the spa park offers a quiet green retreat close to the beach.
Getting Around
The journey from Kiel to Laboe takes about 45 minutes on bus route 14; on weekdays, bus route 102 takes about 25 minutes.
From April to October, the fjord ferry reaches Laboe in about 70 minutes.
Harbour
Laboe’s yacht harbour is associated with fresh fish from fishing boats and with fish restaurants in Laboe.
