Nature and Landscape

Nehmten is located directly on Lake Großer Plöner See and is part of the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The municipality describes marked trails for hiking, cycling, horseback riding and horse-drawn carriage excursions. A renaturation project covers 116 hectares of meadows along the Tensfelder Au.

The Nehmten Forest is one of the larger contiguous woodland areas in Schleswig-Holstein; around half of its area consists of deciduous forest. Traces of the Ice Age can also be seen in the small hilly landscape along the Stocksee circular trail.

The Nehmtener Horn circular trail is a 15.4-kilometre hiking route with a stated duration of 3 hours and 52 minutes. It runs along the Sepeler Kliff Special Area of Conservation and follows the water below the cliff because the habitat there is sensitive.

A narrow path climbs around 25 metres up the Sepeler Kliff and offers sweeping views over Lake Großer Plöner See. The Sepeler Kliff is a former shoreline of Lake Plön. From June to September, rare flowers bloom on the nutrient-poor soil, including thyme, maiden pink and restharrow. At the cliff, visitors can observe waterfowl on Lake Plön as well as red-backed shrikes and white-tailed eagles.

Water and Views

The Stocksee circular trail heads towards Ziegelhof Nehmten, follows Lake Stocksee through woodland and pastureland, and offers opportunities to observe the local flora and fauna. From elevated points, there are views across Lake Stocksee; tufted ducks and other waterfowl can be observed there. The trail also includes an optional detour to a bathing area with a jetty and views across Lake Stocksee.

Active Adventures

The Gut Nehmten circular trail is 8.97 kilometres long, takes around 2 hours and 13 minutes, and begins at the car park near the Im Sande bus stop in Nehmten. The route leads through meadows and the lowlands of the Tensfelder Au to Hornsmühlen, and on the return journey runs along the wooded shore of Lake Stocksee.

Gut Nehmten and the municipality of Nehmten provide a free, interconnected network of bridleways spanning more than 15 kilometres. It runs through fields, meadows, and deciduous and coniferous forests, partly following the shores of Lake Großer Plöner See and Lake Stocksee.

Culture and Culinary Delights

Gut Nehmten has been family-owned since 1768. The estate sells portioned, frozen game meat directly from the farm, including venison from red deer and roe deer as well as wild boar, along with barbecue sausages and salami.
