Pohnsdorf: Hotels and Accommodation

Lake Postsee lies entirely within the municipality of Pohnsdorf. Near Preetz, there is also the Pohnsdorf Stauung, a restored wetland covering approximately 100 hectares, with shallow waters that provide a habitat for breeding and migratory birds. The natural features also include spawning areas for amphibians and cranes; Galloways graze there year-round.

Nature

Pohnsdorf comprises three monastic forest districts with extensive beech stands. The central area of the Pohnsdorf Stauung is listed in Schleswig-Holstein’s wilderness information.

Trails

The Pohnsdorf Loop offers views towards Lake Postsee, passes through several sections of the Preetz Monastery Forest and crosses the gently rolling agricultural landscape of East Holstein. It uses roads with little traffic; there are no restaurants along the route.

Another cycling route is the Schusteracht, a 62.04-kilometre trail whose northern and southern loops meet in Preetz.

History and Crafts

Pohnsdorf and Sieversdorf were first mentioned in 1224. Historically, both places were part of the “Adliges Kloster Preetz” estate district.

A protected ensemble has been preserved in the Preetz Monastery Courtyard, centred around the medieval monastery complex. The Hamann family has practised wooden shoemaking for five generations. The Lorenz Hamann wooden shoemaking workshop in Preetz traces its wooden shoemaking tradition back to 1846.
