The Adelige Kloster Preetz is a preserved medieval monastery complex with a Gothic brick church, a historic gatehouse dating from 1737, and former convent buildings. Notable historic interior features include a large Gothic choir stall, an old nativity scene, and a painted Mass of Saint Gregory.

Culture and History

The town church in Preetz also preserves a late Romanesque stone chancel dating from around 1200. Its historic furnishings include a Romanesque baptismal font from the 13th century, Renaissance chandeliers, bronze crowns from the 17th century, and a suspended baptismal angel from the 18th century.

Another distinctive feature of the town’s history is its long-standing wooden-shoe-making tradition. The family of Lorenz Hamann has practiced this craft for five generations and produces the locally known Preetz wooden shoes.
