Rastorf: Hotels and Accommodations

At the Schwentine, Rastorf features the protected Rastorfer Bogenbrücke, which spans the Schwentine. Gut Rastorf is associated with distinctive late-Baroque gables.

Nature

North of Gut Rastorf, the 55-hectare Moorweiher bei Rastorf FFH area lies in a side valley of the Schwentine.

Its habitat types include transition and quaking bogs, beech forest, and bog woodland.

The 19-hectare Altarm der Schwentine nature reserve extends to Rastorfer Mühle; an information board describes its habitats and species.

Culture and History

Gut Rastorf is associated with the appealing landscape of the Schwentine Valley and distinctive late-Baroque gables; at the Gutskontor gatehouse, it is a local attraction.

In 1904, Rastorfer Mühle was converted into a hydroelectric power station at Bernhard Howaldt’s initiative to supply the Howaldt shipyard. A second plant was built at Rosensee in 1909.

The St. Ansgar Chapel is located at Wildenhorster Weg 14 in Rastorf.

Routes

The Schusteracht around Preetz is a roughly 74-kilometer cycling and hiking route in the shape of a figure eight, with an integrated network for cyclists, hikers, and horse riders that also accommodates canoeists.

One route follows the Rastorf shore of Rosensee to Rosenfeld and then continues via Dorfstraße and a rough path to White Bridge. The section between Rastorfer Mühle and Rosenfeld can be narrow, root-covered, and steep along the Schwentine; it should be avoided when cycling with small children.

A cycling loop of approximately seven kilometers leads from Schwentinental Town Hall via Oppendorfer Mühle, the Schwentine, Rosensee, and White Bridge.

Geographical Context

White Bridge is a local attraction between Schwentinental and Rosenfeld. A burial mound is located on Moorsehdener Weg between Rosenfeld and Rehburg.
